PM Narendra Modi to Engage Indian Diaspora in Washington DC, Emphasizing India's Growth Story during US Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the United States from June 21 to June 24, 2023. The visit is taking place at the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Here are the key points regarding PM Modi’s visit and his address to the Indian diaspora in the US:

  1. PM Modi’s event with the Indian diaspora will take place on June 23 from 7 pm to 9 pm local time.
  2. Award-winning international singer Mary Millben will perform at the diaspora reception hosted by the United States Indian Community Foundation (USICF) at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
  3. Mary Millben will also attend the 9th International Day of Yoga at the UN Headquarters (UNHQ) on June 21 with PM Modi, upon the invitation of India’s Permanent Representative to the UN.
  4. Dr. Bharat Barai, a popular community leader and organizer of Modi’s event at the Ronald Reagan Center, stated that PM Modi is not only the most popular public figure and leader in India but also a globally recognized world leader.
  5. The gathering for PM Modi‘s address to the Indian diaspora in Washington DC will be relatively modest due to his tight schedule, disappointing community leaders who had hoped to organize a larger gala event.
  6. The Indian diaspora in the US numbers nearly 4.5 million and is spread across the country. Members of the diaspora expect PM Modi to connect with them in major cities, as he has done during previous visits to the US.
  7. Dr. Bharat Barai mentioned that PM Modi is highly popular among the global Indian diaspora, and he is now considered one of the most popular world leaders.
  8. PM Modi graciously delayed his departure from DC by a few hours to accommodate the diaspora meeting, as confirmed by Dr. Bharat Barai.
  9. The attendance for PM Modi’s address to the Indian diaspora will be limited to a select gathering of around 1,000 people.
  10. Indian Americans are expected to travel to Washington DC in large numbers to witness the official welcome ceremony for PM Modi on June 22, which will take place a day after he leads a Yoga Day event at the UN headquarters in New York, shortly after his arrival in the United States.
