The Vande Bharat Express train from Goa to Mumbai is expected to start operations in June. This semi high-speed train will run between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and Madgaon in Goa. It is anticipated to reduce the travel time between the two cities by at least 45 minutes compared to the Tejas Express.
The route trials for the Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat Express train were conducted successfully, with the train completing the one-way trip between the cities in a little over seven hours. However, the regular passenger runs and further details have not been announced yet. According to a senior official, the tentative plan is to have a morning departure from CSMT around 6 am, reaching Madgaon in the afternoon. The train would then return the same day to CSMT, arriving close to midnight.
Currently, the Tejas Express departs from CSMT at 5.50 am and arrives at Madgaon at 2.40 pm, taking around 8 hours and 40 minutes to cover the 765 km distance between the two cities. On the return journey, it departs from Madgaon at 3.15 pm and arrives at CSMT at midnight.
The upcoming Vande Bharat Express from Goa to Mumbai will be the fourth Vande Bharat train to be operated from Mumbai. The other three Vande Bharat trains currently in operation are between Mumbai Central – Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar Capital on Western Railways, Mumbai – Sainagar Shirdi, and Mumbai – Solapur on Central Railways.
In terms of seating capacity, the Tejas Express has two Vistadome coaches, 11 AC chair cars, one AC Executive Chair Car, and two Luggage Generator cum Brake vans. On the other hand, the Vande Bharat Express has 16 AC coaches, including two executive class coaches, with a total seating capacity of 1,128 passengers.
