Infineon Technologies AG has introduced the next generation of its EiceDRIVER product family, which consists of dual-channel galvanically isolated gate driver ICs. These gate driver ICs are designed to meet the latest design and application needs in various fields, including switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), solar inverters, motor drives, energy storage systems, and more.
The new EiceDRIVER generation offers several improvements compared to its predecessor. It includes DSO 14-pin packages with extended channel-to-channel creepage for enhanced safety. The gate driver ICs feature dead-time and shoot-through protection, ensuring reliable operation and preventing dangerous half-bridge shoot-through events during start-up. The UVLO start-up time has been shortened to 2 μs, leading to faster SMPS start-up and eliminating the risk of mains power-transformer saturation.
These gate driver ICs also come with a certified galvanic isolation that meets the latest isolation standards (VDE 088411, IEC 60747-17). The certification ensures 20 years of operation and adherence to the highest safety standards. Furthermore, the innovative packaging design removes unused pins, providing higher channel-to-channel isolation ratings and increased PCB layout flexibility for circuit designers.
Configurable shoot-through protection (STP) and dead-time control (DTC) are built into the hardware of these gate driver ICs, offering second-level safety mechanisms for additional protection and reliable operation. The compact LGA 4×4 mm2 packages allow for space-saving of up to 36 percent in low-voltage applications.
By combining robust isolation technology, excellent electrical parameters, and compliance with the latest isolation standards, Infineon aims to deliver high efficiency, reliability, and longevity to power electronics designs in various industries.
