IIT Bombay has removed the option of branch change for first-year students to reduce stress

IIT Bombay, one of India’s premier engineering institutes, has taken a decision to remove the option of branch change for first-year undergraduate students. This decision has been taken to reduce the stress levels of the students, which is a major concern for the institution.

The option of branch change allows students to shift from one course to another after their first year of study. However, this often results in students being unsure of their future and leads to a high level of stress and anxiety.

In a statement released by IIT Bombay, it was stated that “The decision to remove the branch change option for first-year students is aimed at reducing the stress levels of the students. We believe that this will help them to focus better on their studies and make informed decisions about their future career paths.”

The statement further added that “This decision has been taken after careful consideration and consultations with various stakeholders, including faculty members, students, and alumni. We are committed to providing a supportive and stress-free environment to our students, and we believe that this decision will contribute towards achieving this goal.”

The move has been welcomed by many students and faculty members who believe that this will help in reducing the pressure on students and create a more conducive learning environment. However, there are some who have raised concerns about the impact of this decision on the students who may have entered a course that they are not interested in and will now have to continue with it for the entire duration of the course.

Overall, the decision by IIT Bombay to remove the option of branch change for first-year undergraduate students is a significant step towards creating a less stressful environment for students and promoting a better learning experience.
